Man Utd boss Jose Mourinho admits that if Real Madrid are wanting to sell Gareth Bale he will fight for his place at the front of the queue.
The two clubs meet in the UEFA Super Cup on Tuesday and if Bale doesn’t play for Real it may be a clue that he’s on his way out of the club.
“If he plays, it is the clearest signal that he is staying there,” said Mourinho. “[If he plays] he is in the plans of the coach and the club, and it is in his own plans and ambitions to stay there – then I won’t even think about it.
“If he is not in the club’s plans and it is true that a player like Bale is at the departure gate, I will try to be there waiting for him at the other side.”
Real appeared willing to offload the Welshman as they looked to sign Kylian Mbappe from Monaco, but he now looks likely to be joining PSG, so Bale is now expected to remain at the Bernabeu. Jose’s fight to sign him may have to be put on hold, for another season at least!
